Process and pricing

We’ll start with a free video consultation. You’ll get a feel for me, and I’ll get a feel for how involved your divorce will be. For example, I’ll want to know if you own property or businesses, how tense the mood is, and what concerns you have about the future. With that, I’ll have ideas about what your mediation process will entail and whether you should have the support of other professionals.

Assuming you both decide to move forward, we’ll get to work!

Mediation

To start with, you’ll file an Original Petition for Divorce. You’ll organize all relevant documentation. And you’re welcome to consult lawyers or other professionals as you consider options for settlement. You may even want them at the mediation – or available for you to consult by phone before you sign an agreement.

Once you’ve prepared, we’ll meet. Often a single mediated session is all it takes. But if we’re missing key documentation, if your situation is more complex, or if you have trouble coming to agreement, we can extend the process over two or more sessions.

At the end of a successful mediation, you’ll have negotiated a Mediated Settlement Agreement. This details the terms of your settlement in plain English. You’ll then need legal assistance to turn your MSA into a divorce decree.

I charge $200/hour for the mediation session with a two-hour minimum. After the first two hours, I bill by the half hour. A typical divorce mediation takes one four-hour session, which includes finalizing and signing the MSA.
